Foster is also a former Wales International player earning 63 caps and scored 9 goals. She  joins Charlotte Carpenter as the second FIFA Women’s Referee from Wales.

Foster, who has progressed through the successful FAW Referee Development groups said: “When I finished playing there was obviously a huge gap in my life in terms of participating in football. The more I thought about it [becoming a referee], the more I felt I could make a contribution and it would give me that chance to get back on the pitch.

“Playing for Wales was always a huge honour for both myself and my family, so to reach international standard as a referee is just as special and I am very excited.”

The Female only Referee Courses will be taking place at the University of South Wales Sports Park, Treforest Industrial Estate, on the following dates:

January: 4, 11, 18, 25
February: 2, 10, 15, 22

All courses will take place between 7pm and 9pm.

For more information or to book a place on the course, please contact FAW Referee Instructor Ryan Thomas on 07710 412422 or r.thomas6@ntlworld.com.

FAW REFEREES ATTEND FUTSAL REFEREE CONFERENCE

Over the past season the FAW and FA Futsal referees have been in an exchange program involving referees and assessors working with World Cup Final and UEFA Elite referee Marc Birkett along with first year FIFA Referee Peter Nurse and UEFA Observer Sean Dipple.

This accumulated in also our FIFA Referee Valentin Cuiplea officiating in the FA’s Super league.

FAW Futsal Referee Development Officer Ryan Thomas and Valentin Cuiplea were recently invited to attend the FA’s first ever Futsal Referee Conference at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall.

Topics included the difference between futsal and football on certain Laws, which was presented by special guest UEFA Futsal Referee co-ordinator Pedro Galan Nieto.

Ryan Thomas said of the conference: “This has been a very educational experience, which we will take back to our own referees in the up and coming season.

“It has also helped to build more relationships with the FA and UEFA and my thanks must go to Sean Dipple, Rodger Vaughn, Ian Blanchard, Dave Dixon, Marc Birkett, Ian Vaines, and the FAW for giving us permission to continue this agreement.

“I must also especially thank Pedro for taking the time to come over and share his vast knowledge, and we look forward to continuing this arrangement in the up and coming season.”

If you’re already a football referee and would like to become a Futsal Referee, conversion courses are available.

If you’re generally interested in becoming a referee, please also get in touch.
